CSP, Inc. staff members donated school supplies to local children through the Raleigh Rescue Mission’s Back to School, Backpack Giveaway event that was held on August 12th in Raleigh. Donating school supplies helps ease some of the burdens from families living on a tight budget and gives the children what they need to start the school year off right.
CSP, Inc. is proud to be able to support this worthy cause. The response was overwhelming and several hundred supply items were collected, sorted and distributed at this year’s event. Margie Figueroa, Business Manager coordinated CSP’s back to school collection. Margie expressed how important it is to help with various local charities throughout the community and states; “Even a few items make a difference to a student who would otherwise not have the tools to help make his or her learning experience throughout the school year a positive one.”
The Raleigh Rescue Mission’s goal was to give away 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need throughout Wake County. The giveaway event was a huge success and the Mission surpassed their goals again this year. Education is the best way to break the cycle of poverty, but without the right tools, it’s difficult to get a good education. There are over 2,700 homeless children in Wake County Public Schools and over 50,000 children who are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. The donations these students receive are fundamental to their success.
Monetary donations, backpacks and school supplies are accepted year-round at the Raleigh Rescue Mission. The Mission plans to hold its first “Backpack Refill” event in January, 2018. This event will allow students to replenish their supplies of basic items, such as; paper, pencils and notebooks. This event helps both traditional and year-round students benefit from donated items.
